Wally Krantz

he/him

Wally is a creative director, designer, and photographer. Together with a group of creative partners and friends, he makes brand identities, visual identity systems, campaigns, and objects for corporations, non-profits, sports organizations, governments, zoos, theater groups, and musicians.
OO&Friends was formed in 2022 as an independent design studio working with a small group of clients creating brand design systems and sensibilities.
Working with client leadership, marketing teams, and their agencies is central to Wally’s approach in making stronger and more connected brand experiences. He brings together specialists in design, typography, photography, illustration, animation, film, and music to create memorable work for the special needs of each client. A mix of creativity and design with brand and business strategy ensures that every system can flex for any situation.
Before creating Outside Order and OO&Friends, Wally gained over 25 years of experience at some of the best global branding and design agencies in the world. He was chief creative officer for FutureBrand and worldwide creative director for Brand Union (now Superunion) where he connected 22 studios globally. He was a “double-boomerang” at Landor, for three periods in two offices over 14 years: first as Senior designer in San Francisco where he was the primary designer on the team that created the FedEx identity system. After moving to NYC and a couple of years at Interbrand, he returned to Landor NY as creative director, and then a third time he was asked to be executive creative director overseeing the entire Landor NY studio.
His work been awarded in the U.S. and around the world and he has served on design juries for The Clio Awards, The Art Directors Club, and HOW Magazine. Wally has been on NPR’s Marketplace and quoted in Forbes, Fast Company, PRINT, and several articles in The New York Times.
Wally grew up in the suburbs of Detroit and studied graphic design and art history at Western Michigan University, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1993. He was honored as the inaugural WMU College of Fine Arts Distinguished Alumni in Graphic Design in 2014 and continues to work with college students and faculty through lectures, workshops, and mentoring at design programs across the country.
Wally lives in Brooklyn with his wife and two daughters.
